BioEl’s mother worked for a wealthy family in Odessa, Ukraine. She was having an affair with the man she worked for, and fell pregnant. When he found out, she was forced to quit. She moved back to America to be with her parents when the baby was born.
Elizabeth was raised by her grandparents after her mother died during childbirth. At 13 (her mutation appeared only a few months before her 13th birthday (12)), Elizabeth was found by mutant hunter Jack. It is assumed that something occurred then but El doesn't have any memory of it.
After working with the police force, El was taken on by SWAT as a hostage negotiator. It was there she was discovered by Stryker.
El was engaged, though the relationship became strained when they both spent large amounts of time at work and little time with each other and they separated on bad terms.
El has the ability to hypnotise people via eye contact. It must be direct in order for it to begin, but once she has the person's mind, moving away will not effect the hypnosis. Her grandparent's believe that El's eyes gradual sensitivity to light stems from her mutation, though it occurred before the development of her powers. Because of this, El wears sunglasses 99.9% of the time. At night her eyes act kind of like night vision goggles, wherein she sees everything in a duller version of it's colour. (e.g. if she was in a dark room with Ophelia, her hair would look a dull red as opposed to the bright in-your-face red it is in the light.)
